Hawaii hosts mysterious land forms about which few of us know a lot: volcanoes. Planetary scientists, however, are mining these turbulent treasure troves for knowledge about our own planet Earth and other planets in the Solar System. How are they doing this? Some important answers can be found in the ExInEd Electronic PictureBook Volcanic Features of Hawaii and Other Worlds. This new ExInEd publication contains 40 exciting images comparing Hawaiian volcanoes and volcanic features with features believed to have a similar origin on the Moon, Mars, Venus, and the Jovian moon Io. Specific topics include volcanic structures, lava flows, eruption types and resultant landforms, rocks, boulder fields, and radar studies. A useful glossary helps with technical terms and difficult or unusual words.
Electronic PictureBooks are HyperCard® stacks designed to run on a color Macintosh® computer with at least 2.5 megabytes of available RAM, sufficient hard disk space to contain the Electronic Picturebook, System 7.0, and HyperCard 2.1 or HyperCard Player 2.1.
This Electronic PictureBook is one of a series being produced by the Exploration in Education (ExInEd) program at the Special Studies Office of the Space Telescope Science Institute (ST ScI). The purpose of the ExInEd program is to discover new tools and approaches to relate space science and exploration to basic teaching and learning, and it involves searching for new ways to assemble and distribute the results of research, particularly images.
